Accessing Material Analysis

Navigate to Material Analysis from your dashboard sidebar, or:

From Gallery:

  1. Select any design
  2. Click “Material Analysis” or “Get Estimate”
  3. View instant analysis results

From Draft Studio: After generating a 3D model, get material estimates for production planning.

How It Works

Step 1: Upload Your Design

Supported inputs:

  • AI-generated jewelry designs
  • Photos of existing pieces
  • 3D rendered images
  • Reference photographs

Best results with:

  • Clear, well-lit images
  • Visible gemstones and metal areas
  • High resolution for small details
  • Clean backgrounds

Step 2: Optional Context

Provide additional information to improve accuracy:

  • Jewelry type: Ring, necklace, bracelet, earrings
  • Metal type: If known (gold, platinum, silver)
  • Stone types: If identifiable (diamond, sapphire, etc.)
  • Size reference: Any known dimensions

Context is optional but improves estimate accuracy.

Step 3: AI Analysis

GEM REPORTER performs multi-step analysis:

  1. Visual identification - AI identifies jewelry type and components
  2. Gemstone detection - Locates and classifies all visible stones
  3. RAG lookup - Applies formula database for calculations
  4. Weight estimation - Computes metal and stone weights
  5. Confidence scoring - Rates estimate reliability

Step 4: Review Results

Receive comprehensive estimates including:

  • Stone counts and carat weights
  • Metal weight by alloy type
  • Confidence scores for each estimate
  • Human-expert comparison ranges

Analysis Output

Gemstone Estimates

Center Stone:

  • Type identification (diamond, sapphire, emerald, etc.)
  • Estimated carat weight
  • Shape classification
  • Confidence score

Accent Stones:

  • Total count by type
  • Combined carat weight
  • Grouping by size/position
  • Confidence range

Metal Weight Estimates

Estimated weight provided for multiple alloys:

Gold Alloys:

  • 14K Gold (58.3% pure)
  • 18K Gold (75% pure)
  • 22K Gold (91.7% pure)

Other Metals:

  • Platinum (950 grade)
  • Sterling Silver (925)
  • White Gold variations

Each estimate includes:

  • Weight in grams
  • Confidence percentage
  • Human-expert comparison range

Confidence Scores

Each estimate includes reliability indicators:

  • High confidence (80-100%): Strong visual evidence, clear features
  • Medium confidence (60-80%): Good estimate, some assumptions
  • Low confidence (40-60%): Limited visibility, rough estimate

Use confidence scores to understand estimate reliability.

GIA Standards Alignment

GEM REPORTER uses formulas aligned with industry standards:

Gemstone Calculations:

  • Weight formulas based on shape and dimensions
  • Color grade considerations
  • Clarity impact on identification
  • Cut quality assessment

Metal Calculations:

  • Density-based weight formulas
  • Alloy-specific adjustments
  • Construction type factors (solid vs. hollow)
  • Setting type considerations

Credit Usage

Per Analysis: 5 credits

Each analysis includes:

  • Complete gemstone identification
  • All metal weight estimates
  • Confidence scoring
  • Human-expert ranges

Tips to optimize:

  • Use high-quality images for better accuracy
  • Provide context when available
  • Batch similar items if needed

Tips for Best Results

Image Quality

For accurate estimates:

  • High resolution (1024px minimum)
  • Clear focus on gemstones
  • Visible metal surfaces
  • Even lighting without glare

Visible Details

Ensure visibility of:

  • All gemstones (center and accent)
  • Metal areas and settings
  • Prong and mounting details
  • Overall proportions

Provide Context

When known, specify:

  • Intended metal type
  • Target stone sizes
  • Jewelry category
  • Any special features

Multiple Images

For complex pieces:

  • Front view (primary)
  • Close-up of center stone
  • View showing all accent stones
  • Alternative angles if helpful

Understanding Results

Reading Stone Estimates

Center Stone: 1.2 - 1.5 carats (85% confidence) - Type: Round Brilliant Diamond - Human expert range: 1.0 - 1.8 carats

Interpretation:

  • AI estimates 1.2-1.5 carats most likely
  • 85% confident in this range
  • Human experts typically estimate 1.0-1.8 carats
  • Actual weight likely falls within these ranges

Reading Metal Estimates

18K Yellow Gold: 4.2 - 5.1 grams (78% confidence) - Human expert range: 3.8 - 5.5 grams

Interpretation:

  • AI estimates 4.2-5.1 grams most likely
  • 78% confident in this range
  • Accounts for typical construction methods
  • Actual weight depends on exact design details

Confidence Factors

Higher confidence when:

  • Image is clear and well-lit
  • Standard jewelry design
  • Visible proportions and details
  • Familiar stone shapes

Lower confidence when:

  • Image is blurry or dark
  • Unusual or complex design
  • Partially hidden elements
  • Very small accent stones

Troubleshooting

Estimates seem inaccurate

  • Upload higher resolution image
  • Ensure good lighting on piece
  • Provide context about known details
  • Try different image angle

Low confidence scores

  • Improve image quality
  • Ensure all elements are visible
  • Provide additional context
  • Use cleaner background

Missing stone detection

  • Upload close-up images
  • Ensure stones are visible
  • Try better lighting
  • Specify stone locations in context

Metal type misidentified

  • Provide metal type in context
  • Use better color-accurate image
  • Specify karat/grade if known
